About the Class

Time to take a journey to the past--while exploring the Channel Islands today. With over 13,000 years of archaeological evidence, that provides a glimpse into how humans have adapted to life on the Channel Islands.

"Like the Galapagos Islands of South America, isolation has allowed changes to proceed independently on the islands. Marine life ranges from microscopic plankton to the blue whale, the largest animal to live on Earth. Archeological and cultural resources span a period of more than 13,000 years of human habitation." (https://www.nps.gov/chis/planyourvisit/index.htm)

What is your passion, how do you like to play, what is your purpose for taking this class?

It’s your job to “adopt” one of the Channel Islands by learning as much as you can about it and then delivering a presentation to your teacher and/or classmates about what makes your island unique. You will use this "adopted" island for the entire course period. This is the time to teach the whole class, and/or your teacher, what your island is like and how it is different from the other Channel Islands.
